Red Bank Lions Charity – Pecan Store – Chattanooga's Favorite Pecans! YOU can help!

Regarding shopping, it may be that you are trying to find the perfect gift for someone in your family, where you work or someone you don’t even know. Consider the opportunity for you to be the GIFT!

These 4 Words bring the acronym GIFT to light: Gratitude, Inspiration, Friends and family and Traditions.

Gratitude: Exude thanks as often as you can! We are reminded this time of year to live thankfully; however, might we live with Gratitude each day! You choose how to live this: a phone call, a handwritten note, a donation to a favorite cause to honor someone special, volunteer, or a visit to someone who needs your time. Recognize who needs you. Think about it: it takes a grateful attitude to share.

Inspiration: Many of us have lived with challenges whether health, family, self-worth, or a life-changing event that caused unforeseen adjustments. When you navigate through these circumstances, your response can be an inspiration to another person. Like Gratitude, seek Inspiration to make your relationships positive. Seek others who have similar experiences. Post on social media how You have been inspired by someone or discovered inspiration through experiences. Thank the person who has inspired you!

Family and friends: Your GIFT is to serve your family and friends. You can consider your friends as family. Live Gratitude and Inspiration within your valuable and loving relationships. My grandson gave me a bookmark that quoted: “Side by side or far apart ‘grandparents’ are always in our hearts!”  You fill in the blank for who is ‘in your heart’.

Tradition: as defined is “the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way” whether a part of your Christmas season is beginning with other people or a meaningful place or day.  Maybe you have more than one tradition with your family or your traditions have changed due to family changes. Starting the Christmas season at the Red Bank Christmas Festival and Parade is an example to experience Gratitude, Inspiration, Family & Friends and Tradition to celebrate!

Merry Christmas (December), Happy Kwanzaa (December), Happy Hanukkah (December 15)! -

Red Bank Police Department: Protect Your Packages from Porch Pirates

As the holiday season approaches, online shopping and home deliveries increase—which unfortunately means porch pirate activity does too. The Red Bank Police Department wants to help you keep your packages safe. Here are practical, effective steps you can take to make your home a harder target and protect your deliveries this season.

porch pirate

Tips to Prevent Package Theft

1. Use Delivery Instructions Wisely

  • Request that packages be placed out of sight, such as behind a planter, column, or side porch.
  • Ask couriers to knock or ring the doorbell so you know a package has arrived.

2. Take Advantage of Delivery Options

  • Use Amazon Lockers, UPS Access Points, or FedEx Hold-at-Location dropoffs.
    • An Amazon Locker is located at the Mapco at 314 Morrison Springs Rd.
  • Consider in-store pickup for high-value items.
  • Enable “delivery windows” when available so you know when to be home.

3. Install Doorbell or Security Cameras

  • Visible cameras and doorbell cameras deter thieves.
  • Make sure cameras cover your porch, driveway, and street view if possible.

4. Use a Locking Package Box

  • Install a secure parcel drop box on your porch.
  • Many carriers can deliver directly into the box with a code or unlock feature.

5. Keep Your Porch Visible & Well-Lit

  • Good lighting makes thieves hesitate.

6. Track Your Packages Closely

  • Turn on text/email notifications for every delivery.
  • Consider requiring a signature for expensive items.

7. Don’t Advertise Your Deliveries

  • Avoid leaving boxes out for long periods.
  • Break down packaging from high-value items so it’s not obvious what you received.

What to Do if a Package Is Stolen

  • First, check with the carrier—sometimes packages show as delivered before they are.
  • Next, check with neighbors who may have grabbed the package by mistake.
  • If confirmed stolen, contact the Red Bank Police Department at 423-877-2481. Provide:
    • Tracking information
    • Time of delivery
    • Video or photos, if available

We’re here to help keep our community safe this holiday season. Stay alert, work together, and let’s stop porch pirates in their tracks.

Have a safe and happy holiday,

Red Bank Police Department

Red Bank Fire Department: Holiday Safety

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care…and the Christmas tree is safely placed three feet away from the fireplace. Ok, well that may not be how the old Christmas poem goes, so to avoid the same fate that Clark W. Griswold’s tree did in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

National Lampoons XMas Vacation

Here are some holiday safety tips that if Clark Griswold himself had signed up to receive our monthly newsletter could have taken into consideration and may have helped him during the Holiday Season.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation Photo

•    Be careful with holiday decorations. Choose decorations that are flame resistant or flame retardant.

•    Keep lit candles away from decorations and other things that can burn.

•    Make sure you use indoor lights indoors, and outdoor lights outside.

•    Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for number of light strands you can safely connect together.

•    Never overload electrical outlets or extension cords.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation Photo

•    Use clips, not nails, to hang lights so the cords do not get damaged.

•    Keep decorations away from windows and doors.

•    Keep Christmas trees away from heat sources and exits.

•    Only purchase live Christmas trees that are fresh and green with needles that are hard to pull from their branches.

•    Water live Christmas trees daily to prevent them from getting dry and becoming a fire hazard.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation Photo

•    When using a ladder to hang decorations, always make sure the ladder is on even and solid ground, and keep three body parts in contact with the ladder at all times.

•    Never run electrical cords under rugs or carpeting; it’s also best to tape cords down to avoid a trip hazard

Holiday safety for our kids and our furry kids.

•    Holiday decorations can easily be mistaken for a shiny snack, so keep bite-size ornaments out of reach (this includes items like tinsel.)

•    Tinsel is lovely, but keep it away from kitties, if ingested it could lead to severe blockage and surgery.

•    Remember, mistletoe, poinsettia, lilies, and holly berries are all toxic; It’s best to avoid decorating with these plants if you have kids and/or pets.

•    Keep children/pets away from cooking areas; use back burners and turn pot handles inward.

•    If you have a live Christmas tree, ensure kids/pets cannot drink the water from the stand or consume fallen pine needles.

•    Ensure children and/or pets don’t have access to open trash cans and table scraps.

Now to the highlight of everyone’s holiday the delicious holiday meal.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation Photo

•    Fully cook meats; insert a meat thermometer into the densest part and check these temps:

1.    Turkey/Poultry 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

2.    Beef Roast 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

3.    Fresh Ham 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

4.    Fully cooked Ham 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

•    Thoroughly wash raw fruits and vegetables.

•    Wash hands, cutting boards, and preparation surfaces between uses, especially after handling raw meat.

•    Be sure to keep hot liquids and food away from the edges of counters and tables, where they can easily be knocked over by young children.

•    Never put a spoon used to taste food back into the food without washing it (Cousin Eddie).

•    Bring leftovers to a temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit to eliminate bacterial growth; never reheat a portion more than once.

•    Always thaw food in a refrigerator, NOT at room temperature.

•    Refrigerate food promptly if not eating right away or within two hours of cooking.

If you plan on going “over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house” here are some home security tips to keep your home’s safe while away.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation Photo

•    Don’t leave keys hidden outside your home, as burglars often know how to spot the most common hiding places quickly.

•    To make it look like someone is home, set a DVR to record shows at random times so the Tv will come on.

•    Use timers for lights in several different rooms within your home and set them to come on and off at random times.

•    Avoid posting any status updates or public announcements on social media sites or blogs regarding travel plans.

•    Have a trusted friend or neighbor pick up your newspaper, mail, or other expected deliveries.

Finally, whether you shop online or go to a store or mall here are some shopping safety tips to keep you safe as you but that special person that special gift.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation Photo

•    If shopping online, only buy from sites that start with “https://”.

•    Make sure your security software is up to date before shopping online.

•    Never enter sensitive or financial information into pop-up windows on suspicious emails.

•    Dedicate one credit card for all your shopping needs.

•    Do not shop using public Wi-Fi.

•    Create complex passwords on shopping sites, combining letters, numbers, and special characters.

•    Turn off Bluetooth and switch to cellular before you make a purchase.

•    When shopping at a mall or store, shopping with a friend or in a group is your best practice.

•    Be alert; always be aware of your surroundings.

•    Share your shopping itinerary with someone you trust.

•    Bring only the cash and credit cards you will need.

•    Never keep your wallet or phone in your back pocket.

•    Ladies, keep your purse closed and towards the front of your body.

•    Always Park, stand, and walk in well-lit areas.

We hope you have a safe and blessed Holiday Season!!!
